Bruce B. McLarty moved to Colorado in 1973. After receiving his BA (summa cum laude) and MA, and after working for several years in the area of high altitude plant ecology, he decided to go to law school. He attended the University of Denver College of Law where he participated in moot court competition, wrote an article for the Denver University Law Review and was the Copy Editor for the Administrative Law Review. He graduated law school in 1986 and has practiced law in Colorado since that time.
For the first five years of his legal career, Mr. McLarty's emphasis was on commercial litigation at the trial and appellate court levels. Since 1991, however, he has focused primarily on insurance defense. The first part of his insurance practice involved the defense of general liability cases, including catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, as well as UM/UIM and PIP bad faith cases. Beginning in 2002 he started to emphasize the representation of general contractors and subcontractors in construction defect cases. In January 2011, Mr. McLarty joined Sutton & Gulley, P.A., where he continues to represent various contractors and subcontractors, but also defends first and third party tort insurance actions. His combined experience in commercial litigation and insurance defense gives him a perspective unavailable to those who have practiced in only one area.
In the course of his career Mr. McLarty has first-chaired numerous jury trials through to judgment and has litigated numerous bench trials and arbitrations. He also has five reported appellate decisions. He is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations and the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association.
